I am moving to
Walcott, what do I need to do to set up my utilities?
All new customers are required to complete a utility sign up form
and pay a $70.00 deposit to the City of Walcott for water/sewer
service. Deposits shall
be received from all customers and will be returned after one year
if customer’s credit is in good standing and customer has not
received a water shut-off notice or when the customer receives a
final bill.

How are my water/sewer/refuse bills figured?
Residential and commercial monthly water rates are billed at $3.25
per 1,000 gallons. The
minimum charge is $4.55 per month based upon the minimum usage of
1,400 gallons.
Residential and
commercial monthly sewer rates are billed at $3.40 per 1,000 gallons
with a base rental rate of $3.00 per account each month.
The minimum charge is $7.76 per month based upon the minimum
usage of 1,400 gallons and base charge.
Residential and
commercial refuse charges are billed at $10.24 per month.
Any establishment requiring more than four cubic yard refuse
pickup will be required to have a private pickup by a licensed
hauler.
What day
is refuse and recycling collected and what items are eligible for
recycling?
Refuse and recycling is collected every Monday except for legal
holidays, collection will be on Tuesday.
Recycling is a free service, with no charge billed to the
resident. Recycling
bins are available at City Hall at no charge with a limit of one per
residence. If you
should move, however, please leave the bin at your current
residence.
Items eligible
for recycling:
- Newspaper,
magazines, catalogs, boxboard office paper and mail.
Place newspaper in a brown paper bag or tie in bundles.
Magazines and catalogs must be tied separately.
Boxboard (cereal and dry food boxes, tissue roll holders,
shoe boxes, paper egg cartons, detergent boxes and notepad
backs) must have any plastic liner bags removed and flatten all
boxes to save space. Remove
any plastic from mail envelopes.
- Corrugated
cardboard. Please
flatten all cardboard boxes.
Tie in bundles (not to exceed 4 feet in length of width
and not to exceed 50 lbs. in weight).
Clean corrugated cardboard only.
Place at curbside with the rest of your recyclables.
- Plastic
containers and bottles must have a #1 or #2 recycling symbol on
the bottom. All
items must be rinsed and the caps removed and discarded.
Containers may be flattened to reduce volume.
Bottles that contained motor oil, pesticides, or
chemicals will NOT be accepted.
- Only
clear, green, and brown glass that contained food or beverage
can be recycled. Rinse
containers and remove and discard lids.
There is no need to remove labels.
- Tin
and aluminum must be rinsed and free of food before placing them
in your recycling bin. There
is no need to remove labels or flatten your cans but lids must
be discarded.

Building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits are required
by the City of Walcott. Please

How do I
rent a shelter or ball diamond at Victory or Wescott Park?
Shelter and ball diamond reservations for Victory and Wescott Park may be made by
contacting City Hall at 563.284.6571 ext. 10 at anytime between
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Reservations may be made no earlier than six months prior to
the date of use. Shelter reservations
will become effective when the reservation form and the
non-refundable fee of $25.00 is remitted to the City Clerk’s
office. There is no charge to
reserve a ball diamond. Unreserved
shelters and ball diamonds will still be available to be enjoyed by the general public
on a first come, first serve basis.
Weekly diamond reservations are posted on the window at City Hall.
What can be
taken to the compost area? The compost area is available for
residents of the City of Walcott. There are two piles at the
compost area. One pile is for composting which includes grass, leaves,
and garden vegetation only. The second pile is for brush,
trees, and limbs. No other materials, including bags, are
allowed in the area. Please respect the rules so that the
area can continue to stay open.
