Parks & Recreation

The City of Walcott
has four parks for the
enjoyment of the
general public.

 

 
 

Walcott hosted the Iowa Area fast pitch tournament for the 24th consecutive year in 2008.  For further information, call Larry Koberg at 563.284.6796.

Victory Park - Located on the corner of East James Street and North Henry Street.  Some of the amenities include a basketball court, a softball/baseball diamond, newly installed playground equipment, shuffleboard court and restrooms.  There are also two picnic shelters available for company picnics, family gatherings, birthday parties, or any special occasion.   

Wescott Park Located on the corner of West James Street and North Parker Street.  Some of the amenities include a softball/baseball diamond, playground equipment, restrooms and two picnic shelters.   

Welcome Park Located on North Main Street and Cedar Lane Drive.  This is a welcome center for the City with a brick paved memorial sidewalk.  The Ed Brus Community Gazebo is located here and is a perfect spot for wedding and family pictures!  Perennial gardens are throughout the park.  

Watertower Park  - Located at the corner of South Main Street and Memorial Road.  There is playground equipment, soccer field and a portable toilet facility available. 

Control of Pets.  Per the Walcott Code of Ordinances, it is unlawful for any pets to be on park property.  These provisions shall not apply to service animals used by persons with disabilities such as a seeing eye dog. 

ACTIVITIES 

The Walcott Softball Organization hosted two fastpitch softball tournaments in 2008.  The Memorial Day Weekend Tournament was held May 23-25 and the Iowa Area International Softball Congress Men's Fastpitch Tournament was June 20-28.   

Throughout the summer, Little League and the Tri County Men’s Fastpitch Softball League utilize Victory and Wescott Parks.  Games can usually be found at both parks most nights throughout the week.  

The City of Walcott sponsored two summer youth activities this year.  The Summer Recreation Program was from June 16th - July 25th.  The program was held on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 9 a.m. - noon and was open to ages 5 - 12.  The Summer Tennis Lesson Program was offered to ages 7 - 15 at the Wescott Park tennis courts.  This program was held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from June 10 - July 3.  Contact City Hall at 563.284.6571 ext. 10 for further information.
