SEWER SYSTEM

Our Sanitary Sewer System is an Aero-Mod Mechanical Treatment Facility.  It has a 1,300,000 gallon per day capacity.  The City of Walcott, which includes the Interstate 80 businesses, is on this system.

SOLID WASTE

Our refuse is currently collected weekly by Allied Waste. We have a very active curbside recycling program with the recyclables being collected the same day as refuse. Below are some of the requirements for the program. If you should have any questions, please contact John Brockmann, Director of Public Works.

Must be in “green or blue containerthat you may pickup at City Hall. Place out and away from the regular garbage on Mondays. Paper and cardboard must be bundled and tied.

Allied Waste recognizes “SIX” holidays. Collection will run one day late for all communities that have collection on or after holiday during holiday week.

{Holidays—New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day}

APPLIANCES & ELECTRONICS: Set by the curb and call Public Works Dept. at 563.284.6571 Ext. 11.  A disposal fee of $7.50 is required for most items. A fee of $15.00 is required for TV's, copiers and monitors.

NOTICE: In the fall of the year, we have a special program that allows the residents of Walcott to bag leaves from their lawns, and either take them to the compost area themselves for disposal or call Public Works for a pickup. This program normally runs from October through November. If you take the leaves to the compost area yourselves, there are rules for this also. You MUST NOT leave the bags or containers that you haul your leaves in there. Only dispose of the leaves in the area marked with a sign for them. DO NOT combine leaves and sticks in the same spot. We have signs posted for different areas.

COMPOST AREA:  The compost area is currently open to Walcott residents.  Acceptable items include:  leaves, brush, trees, limbs, grass, and garden vegetation.  Please do not leave bags at the area.

MOTOR OIL: May bring to PUBLIC WORKS DEPT. for recycling.

BURNING: There is a “NO BURN” Policy in the City of Walcott.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL US AT 563.284.6571 EXT. 11 OR STOP BY THE OFFICE AT 212 W. LINCOLN STREET.
